Section 7 Report and Barrister

Hello,

Following the FHDRA last week, a section 7 report has been ordered (as expected)

My exH will make this a very difficult process and I am looking to appoint a Direct Access barrister. The next court date is March 2021, after the report has been completed - CAFCASS have 14 weeks.

Is the hearing in March what is known as the 'Final Hearing' or it is a Section 7 Hearing and then after that a final hearing?

At what point between now and March do I need to start looking for a barrister? Do they need a lot of time or will he/she want to see the section 7 report first?

I guess I'm a little confused about timelines. I've been self-represented so far, which was fine, as exH didn't turned off his phone and was not contactable for the telephone FHDRA last week so not much happened in the 5 min hearing! The judge said he will order the section 7 anyway.

Thanks so much

Look for one as soon as possible, so you can get it booked in their diary meaning you won’t miss out on the one you want because they have been booked by someone else! You can then send them the paperwork closer to the time.

Just find out in advance their fees and how much notice they will need if the court hearing is cancelled or adjourned (or you decide to do the hearing yourself and want to cancel)

You will liaise with the barrister clerk so if you have any questions, I’m sure they won’t might talking you through the process.

Good luck
