Dad not on birth certificate

What with Brexit and all, I was hoping to get an Irish passport. My dad was Irish so I assumed it would be straightforward. Unfortunately, I have recently discovered my dad is not on my birth certificate. I think this was because my Mum was still married to someone else when I was born. I can't check why since both my parents are deceased.
So my question is, how can I prove my dad is my dad?? Sounds ridiculous I know. I only have cousins from my dad's side now, no uncles or aunties. I can't think of a way. Also, my parents never married.
I would like my children to be able to benefit from an Irish passport but looks unlikely right now.

I think ut is unlikely if he is no longer alive. One of the reasons that regardless of how a parent behaves I think they should be on the birth certificate.
