. . . also absolutely incensed by lawyers labelled "lefty" for just doing their job? Patel is stirring up hatred against our profession who are simply assisting in upholding the rule of law. Hate speech from a dreadful person.

Secret barrister definitely has it. I spent ten years on dreadful pay fighting unlawful decisions by this establishment. I think I'm done with the UK until this dystopian mess has passed.

This government has been shitting on the legal system from a great height for years now. They then gaslight the legal profession (who aren't buying it) and the public (who are). All the readers of the daily Express etc are comfortable blaming layers, as ignorance is its own comfort blanket.

And it's not just crime as well. It's all the court system creaking to the point of collapse.

And don't let the government blame Covid for the backlog in cases. As the handy attached picture demonstrates.
