Driving licence in maiden name

Help, I am really starting to stress. I got married 7 years ago but I have only just updated my driving licence to my married surname. I now have my new licence and didn’t receive a fine. However I have been driving a company car under my maiden name driving licence for 7 years. I am currently having issues at work and am worrying myself to death that HR may use this as a reason to dismiss me. Is this illegal and am I at risk of losing my job?

Why would you get a fine?

Your name doesn’t automatically change when you get married, it just means you can use either name (or both) if you prefer.

I have my driving licence in my married name and my passport in my maiden name.

As long as your address matches where you insure your vehicle to, there is no problem.

I’ve been married 21 years my license is in my maiden name my insurance in my married.

You used to have a section on the old paper license where you added any other name you used. It’s perfectly legal.

not a traffic officer... but you don't HAVE to change your name on the licence because you don't have to change your name when you get married, full stop.
I keep some documents in my maiden name because I travel for work, so my passport and licence are in maiden name, plus at least one credit card. What name do you work under?
You do have to keep your DVLA details up to date so they can contact you though, so having hte right address is important.

What they've said is correct but If you've changed your name on every other document, passport, credit cards etc then the Police could argue if they wanted to be complete arses that you are using your married name on every other document and therefore your licence is incorrect but it would have to a slow work day for them to do that. As long as your insurance matches your licence details.

With regards to HR, if they are doing the correct checks then your name being different from your licence to the one on your contract and the one you're using at work should have been raised at the time you submitted it but the fact it wasn't means they accepted it so I wouldn't lose sleep over it (I do the licence checking at work and wouldn't raise it as an issue)

I use my maiden name at work but my married name on my licence. I am eligible to use the fleet cars at work, and I just had to send them a copy of my marriage certificate to prove that my licence belongs to me. Hopefully you are able to do something similar with your HR. The only thing that legally needs to be up to date on your licence is your address.

My driving licence is in my maiden name, my insurance in my married name as is the lease car.

Got caught speeding, got letter from police at my married name. Just explained discrepancy with name in licence, it was accepted and didn't even need to send my marriage certificate.

I drive for my job and my licence is in my maiden name, it’s really not an issue, you’re not obliged to use your married name.

I’ve been married for over 20 years and my bank account driving licence and passport and other stuff are still in my maiden name .
I’ve renewed them all several times with no problems
The only thing I have in my married name is my wedding certificate 😂
