Pay regrade

Good afternoon, I have a question about salary regrades and would appreciate an employment law opinion.

I work for the local authority. I was at the top of the salary scale in our band. They completed a regrading exercise and our whole team was regraded into a higher band. However, instead of going to the top of that band, I am now at the lowest spinal column point. Is this right?

The whole point of the regrade was that we argued our work was at at higher level and this was accepted. If I had been in the higher band originally, I would have worked my way up the increments.

Are you at the grade point in the new band which is equivalent to your previous salary? I.e. are you on the same salary in a new band? If so, that is consistent with my experience on a whole team regrade.

So say your salary was 30k at the top of the old band and it’s now 30k at the bottom of the new band?

Well surely that’s the ideal situation as now your salary can increase year on year, whereas before you’d capped out!

I am actually on a slightly higher salary at the bottom of the new band, so I do feel lucky as I can work back up the increments every year. However, other people were not started at the bottom, seemingly because they have worked there longer.

I am surprised at this as I was on the same pay as them (after working my way up) yet now they are on more money. That just does not seem right.

I am aware this may come across as greedy as I understand many people have lost their jobs over the past few months. Just querying whether this is fair. Thank you.
