Getting a refund from tradesperson

We arranged to have a new patio, 10 days prior I was asked to pay over half of the cost for the patio slabs which I did on the same day.

2 days before the work was due I got a phone call to say that Jewsons had called to tell them that the manufactures machine had broken meaning there would be a 6-8 week delay on the slabs. So no patio.

I asked the guy doing our job for a refund and we would look at organising again for next year. The company has a good reputation but the guy is very lax in communication. He asked me for my details for the refund on Monday which I gave him and have heard nothing.

Can anyone tell me how long is reasonable to wait for a refund from him. I assume he is getting it off Jewsons then returning to me however my contract is with him so isn't it him that needs to refund me and chase Jewsons himself?

Thank you

If he is waiting for a refund from jewsons it is likely he will have to wait 30 days.

There is no way my DP could have afforded to refund you from his own poket.

If he has paid Jewsons and needs the refund from them I would expect to wait until he got it.
