Second hand car bought May 2019 August 2020. After a catalogue of problems fan belt, exhaust, window, and now ECU unit (if that is the problem can't get a mechanic to diagnose definitively and fix. I have now asked in writing for full refund from selling garage. Who has already refused verbally to fix or refund. My ds first car he saved up for himself we are not rich. £2500 cost. Any advice...aside from Trading Standards or Citizens Advice which I will do just waiting to hear back from garage at the moment. So down about it all..

Assuming you've had it since May 19 and not only since this month, you don't stand a chance and I'm not surprised they refused you.

It is a used car. Fan belt and exhaust are things that always wear out over time and need replacing. Window and ECU are just things that happen with cars.

I think your expectations for what you get for £2500 are unrealistic.

How long was the warranty?

We have just bought a used car and most of the things you've mentioned were specifically not covered in our warranty. The garage made a point to highlight this to us as they are all parts that wear down over time and need replacing and maintaining.
