Hair strand test cost?

My brother is currently taking my ex-SIL to court over access to their son. CAFCASS have suggested he does a hair strand test to show his alcohol use over the last few months (he is an alcoholic which was the major factor in him losing access to his son) but he says he can't afford it as it is £1000. Can anyone confirm whether this price is accurate?
(I am actually supporting my ex-SIL as my brother has behaved appallingly but I would lend him the money for this if it means he can re-establish some sort of contact with his son.)

Make sure he uses a court approved testing lab that gives a detailed report of the testing methodology and results achieved. You can google this. Hair strand is the most reliable method
