Voluntarily Giving Up PR

LauraJo19 · 06/08/2020 20:54

My ex and I adopted a child - my ex walked out and hasn't looked back. We would be both happy for their PR to be removed and me be left as the child's only parent as that's the reality. There are no other issues to sort as I've never applied for child maintenance.
So the question is, with both adoptive parents in agreement is it possible for my ex to just give up their PR and my child be solely mine? If so how would we do this? Thanks

Surely if the child is adopted, he is the child's father. That can't be removed unless a court ordered it???

If he doesn't want any involvement in your child's life the simplest thing is to get a letter from him consenting to you taking your child out of the country whenever and wherever you want. With that base covered his PR will have no effect unless he chooses to use it, e.g. to insist on a say in where your child goes to school.
