Solicitor ignores my request to see my file

I have asked my solicitor several times to see the contents of my file so I can make a decision and they won't comply. I thought it was my right to see it.

Am I wrong?

What info is in the file. What reason have they given you.

Lamemechose · 28/07/2020 12:58

It's not a criminal offence. No reason.

Have you looked at the Law Society page. There is a lot of info online about clients asking to see their files, who owns what file, how to resolve the issue.

Lamemechose · 28/07/2020 13:15

No, what is the law society?

Have you paid your bill?

thirstyformore · 28/07/2020 13:18

Google liens.

Lamemechose · 28/07/2020 13:18

Yes, of course I have paid my bill.

Solicitors may have a lien over files in the event invoices aren't paid. If you are up to date, and the file hasn't been destroyed (ie it isn't in relation to a matter 20 years ago) then I can't see a reason why you wouldn't be able to review the contents.

Unless you are in dispute with them over something else and there are disclosure issues.
