Hi guys I'm just wondering can someone travel to Spain with a criminal record? X

Half the Costa del Sol have a criminal record...

Mumr19 · 27/06/2020 22:35

@Northernsoullover it would be someone I know travelling from the uk to Spain, for a week holiday, do you think they'd be turned away?

Are they on the Interpol list of wanted criminals?

Mumr19 · 27/06/2020 22:41

@Clymene they're not a wanted criminal, she got convicted of gbh with intent when she was 15 , she's 19 now, she had a yro (youth rehabilitation order) and she's served her whole sentence which is finished, she just doesn't want to get turned away at Spain, I don't know who to call for advice either x

Erm they don't ask for a visa for Spain and they don't ask about any criminal convictions for a holiday to Spain

Mumr19 · 27/06/2020 22:48

@purpleme12 aw right okay thanks so much! X

I agree with PPs - a not insignificant proportion of people holidaying in certain areas of Spain will have a criminal record

I'm sure Spain will be fine. The US not so much.

In theory, EU countries have always been able to restrict FOM based on criminal records but generally choose not to.

After December 31st the UKs arrangements with the EU will cease, so unless there is a treaty in place, it's entirely possible some countries will refuse entry to people will a criminal record. The ability to move within the Schengen zone might also be affected.

If I was making a 20 year plan that relied on trouble free travel, I'd be wary if I had a record.
