SAR how long is reasonable now

I know the answer might be as long as a piece of string, but how long would it be reasonable to wait for a response to a Subject Access Request?
I've had ongoing dealings with a law firm, and a public sector department, since way before the Covid pandemic started.

I've made a SAR to the law firm, just prior to lockdown, they've told me they cannot supply the information until October at the earliest.
The public sector department has ignored all communication from me, not even an acknowledgement.

Obviously places are not running at full capacity and people are facing massive issues right now. I'm concerned about legal time frames and wondered if there's any relaxation in the normal rules?

As I understand the 30 day deadline is statutory (can be extended by further 60 days for complex cases) and is still a requirement. That said the ICO have issued guidance saying that in the current circumstances they are understanding if deadlines can't be met.
That said organisations should still be aiming to comply and keeping in touch with requestors where they can't make the deadline. Not acknowledging your request is not acceptable.
I work in public sector doing SARs and we are working like mad to keep the ship sailing even though Covid has impacted on our staffing.
