What to do about noisy neighbors

I'm new to posting and am hoping that some of you lovely people could help. My council house is by no means sound proof to the point that I can hear them cooking and going to the bathroom. I am a considerate person to a fault and have been wearing headphones for years to listen to music, take phone calls and even watch TV, now I physically can't wear them and now they are home 24/7 it's become unbearable. They between the lack of soundproofing and them being so loud I can hear them both in and outside of the house (more so when they are in the garden), music that is blared all day and starting earlier and the slamming of all the doors that shack the house and now have started banging on walls. What I would really like to know is where I stand as I highly doubt the council would make any improvements to the home. I suffer with severe depression and I am becoming desperate so any help would be much appreciated. Sorry for the lengthy plea.

Do you think they won’t be at home before too long?

I think your only course of action is to talk to the council. They might be able to soundproof walls. Families tend to be noisy and I assume you are on your own in a house. Can you use a room furthest away from them? This isn’t an unusual problem but would you consider moving if a quitter location could be found? Noise from neighbours is only usually considered anti social if it’s at unsocial hours or very loud and frequent. If it is, contact the council with a noise complaint.

I am attached to neighbors on both sides and while one side is quite quiet the other I can hear from everywhere in my house the house is that badly built, I can hear a car door close from six houses away. Next door but one can slam their door and it shakes my house.

shrieking, loud music, slamming doors and banging on walls is not reasonable behaviour.

start a complaint with the council. There's nothing else you can do. Be warned that the bar for this kind of skankiness is very high.
