If a colleague was giiven the chance to do a GDL course and move into education law, does anyone know if it would be worth the money and hassle financially? What would the wage of a solicitor be on average after about 5 years? Current salary is 55k moving to 63k next year.

I would doubt they would earn more than that in “education law”. I would stay where she is if I were her.

I’m not sure what “education law” would be, but it entirely depends on the type of firm and location as to what the salary after 5 years would be. Two years would be spent as a trainee, and even in large regional firms a 3 year PQE lawyer would not be on 63k (London is a world of its own).

And if the “chance” to do the GDL involves spending her own money on it, then I’m not sure what the opportunity actually is - a training contract at the end?
