As it costs from £390 around here to get a solicitor to write a will, and I only need a simple will, I’ve found a template online for writing one myself. There is just one question I need help with - if anyone reading this is a lawyer, or has written a will and knows the answer, I would be super grateful for help.
Apart from leaving a few specific things to specific people, which is simple to do, I want to split my estate equally between my two siblings and my nephew. My nephew is under 18. Is it OK to just list him along with my siblings as people to receive portions of the estate, or do I need to do anything special? If possible, I would like his share to go to his father, my brother, to be looked after until he’s 18. (I completely trust my brother to do this, so I don’t feel the money needs to be in some protected account that my brother can’t access.) Is this the default thing that happens when a beneficiary is under 18, or do I need to make arrangements?
Thanks so much in advance if anyone can help with this. (I have a medical condition that means I catch things very easily and get hard hit by anything I catch, so in view of the current situation I’d like to get a will sorted ASAP.)
