Conveyancing solicitor

We are looking to buy our first home 2 hours away from where we currently live. We know we need a conveyancing solicitor eventually but can this be in our current town or does it need to be where we're moving to?

We moved county a few years ago and had problems because the solicitor did the searches with the wrong local authority. I'd go with someone local to the new house.

I’m a conveyancing solicitor and I regularly work for people all over the country. It’s ultimately your choice, if you know someone local to you who you trust, instruct them.

If a conveyancer does the wrong searches their firm will have to pay for new, correct ones, assuming it’s discovered in time. If it’s not discovered in time and there’s a mortgage involved, it’s likely to be a negligence claim!
