I’ll be as succinct as I can.
End of August DD answers a knock on the door. It’s one of our neighbours saying that my car has just been hit by another car which then drove off down the road. They thought they may have caught it on cctv but said that the car was stopped down the road.
I went down the road and started to take photos of the damage to the other car and a young ish couple come out of the house and approach me.
I say she had just hit my car so I was about to report it and she just said sorry, she didn’t know who’s car it was and was there any damage? I said yes there was unfortunately and not to worry, I just needed her insurance details.
She gave me her details and I toddled back home and reported it and it was repaired a couple of weeks later.
I’ve just opened a letter from my previous insurers (current at the time) asking for more details such as what she looks like as she has denied the incident.
I have looked her up on Facebook and the only thing that I can see possible for her to be able to claim it wasn’t her is that I have her as Firstname Lastname (I even clarified if it was is or ies spelling st the end!) but her Facebook profile names her as Firstname- Hyphenatedsecondname Lastname.
Am really cheesed off as I even saw the fella a couple of days later and he was chatting about how she wouldn’t have tried to wriggle out of it on purpose and then we chatted about our upcoming trips as he was off to India and I was going away for the weekend. It was all very civilised and I was just a bit meh about the inconvenience and knowing that my next insurance was going to be costly as I now have had 3 claims in 1 year (terrible year for my car- I mashed a side exiting the work car park and then someone tore the other side off 4 months later, then this 4 months later again!) my car insurance went from £340 fully comp, protected ncd to almost £1k after that year 😩
My question is, what will happen next? My neighbours are highly unlikely to still have the cctv- if they ever even caught it in the first place, we didn’t look as it was settled instantly!
I expect they will remember the incident and I can give a good description of her- or even a photo of her from her Facebook page.
How likely am I to have to pay the excess on the claim? Is there any chance of me winning this fiasco?
It’s so bloody annoying- I’m clearly not at fault, I was loading the washing machine at the time!
