Interview under caution DWP

My dd aged 20 has just informed me she has an ‘interview under caution’ on Friday. I thought it’d be something like she didn’t get a train ticket as she frequently uses the train but no! She let someone use her details for the universal credit scam. She doesn’t know who the person is either! The letter does appear very threatening and as disappointed and angry as I am, I’m worried sick. After doing some research I’ve seen it’s an advanced payment of 1200, but she said 5 months ago she set up a payment plan so she pays 60 pound a month back to them. Last thing we need at the moment! Any advice please?

Oh dear, no wonder you are worried sick. Has she a job? Will
She be able to pay any money back?

Namechanged6 · 10/12/2019 22:53

Sour- She already set up a payment plan with them 5 months ago she said. She only pays 60 pound a month back though. Not sure why they are now interviewing if she’s already paying some back. I’m terrified she’ll go to prison

She knowingly let them? Can you explain a bit more about what the scam is and her involvement?

BrokenWing · 10/12/2019 22:54

What is the universal credit scam and why/how did she give her details to sometime she didn't know? What did she benefit from the scam?

PointlessUsername · 10/12/2019 22:57

Same happened with my 20 year old nephew. The interviewer set him up a payment plan and he was given a fine on top. The choice was that or pass on for
Prosecution

Poltergeist- The universal credit scam it’s called. If you search it there’s a lot of news articles about it. She basically gave someone her details as someone told her they could get her a loan that’d she’d have to pay back, being the naive 20 year old she agreed and she said she had to pay him so much out of the money she received. It’s actually an advanced payment from universal credit that she isn’t entitled to when I searched it

Pointlessusername- why do they think they can get away with this! She already has a payment plan set up so they may just fine her. Hopefully Hmm

Broken wing- she got £1200 and had to pay the scammer some money. Not sure how much though, probably the majority. But she’s started to pay it back a month after she done it so she’s actually not benefitted at all.

In my nephews case alot of his friends had gotten away with it already.

Fingers crossed it will be the fine on top as DD has already started paying back

Hi.
I just received dwp interview under caution inviting letter.

" we are investing a claim for universal credit about failure to declare a change which affects your entitlement to child allowance and the carer allowance of universal credit.

Do you know what does it mean?

@Alleksa123 You should really start your own thread rather than revive an old one. Posters may not notice your post and reply to the original post instead.

It means they think that you have had a change of circumstances that affects your benefits and failed to tell them about that change. It doesn't tell us anything about what that change might be.
