Deposit not being returned

We moved out of our rental in mid September. Our landlord confirmed via email to the estate agents that they were happy for them to return our deposit to us in full.

The estate agents then asked us for bank details which we forwarded to them. But we have not received the deposit back. I have kept chasing them and nothing.

The agent I chased finally responded this week to say she didn't deal with these even though she was the one asking about our bank details for returning our deposit. She gave me the email address to another person who I have chased but nothing. The original agent then emailed to say it is with the accounts team but having checked the protection scheme it has not been updated since 2017 so nothing has been done.

I have had enough. I want my money back (it is pretty large deposit). I however do not know who I would contact about this as all the searches that came up are for disputes about landlord not wanting to return full deposit.

Has anyone got any advise?

I would have thought you go directly to the company your deposit is registered with and ask for its return.

Ask estate agent for company details of who the deposit was registered with. Although, the agent should do this for you.

They sound dodgy! Speak to CAB.

I have now raised a dispute through the deposit scheme and hopefully we will get somewhere.

The estate agents are a big well known company, just utterly useless and I will definitely never deal with them again.
