Accident in shop

purplepigs · 21/10/2019 20:41

I was out shopping on Saturday in a well known popular shop and some racking fell on me while I was looking at clothes
It appears that a member of staff was the other side of the racking and had made it loose somehow

It fell on me, really banged into my left thought and has caused a very large mark with a bruise

What shall I do
Suggestions please

If you are hurt you should probably go and see your gp/go to minor injuries/A&E depending on the severity of your injury to get checked out.

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 21/10/2019 20:44

Racking? Do you mean shelving?

Well assuming you filled out an accident form on the day, you do nothing more. It was an accident. Are you hoping for compo? You don’t have any damages.

endofthelinefinally · 21/10/2019 20:45

Did the staff in the shop assist you? Offer first aid?
How bad is your injury?

Lookingsparkly · 21/10/2019 20:45

Nothing....

PennysPocket · 21/10/2019 20:45

Me personally would have complained at the time and asked for it to be entered in to their accident log. That's it.

If I had a substantial injury such as a break that caused me time of work or severe pain I may decide to see a solicitor to recover damages/loss of earnings.

For a bruise I would just do the first one but that's me.

Wellmet · 21/10/2019 20:46

Definitely complain.

SemperIdem · 21/10/2019 20:47

Nothing? Accidents happen and you’ve not been injured to a level that makes compensation even remotely likely.

EskewedBeef · 21/10/2019 20:49

It was an accident, and presumably you got an apology. What do you think your options for a next move are?

happytoday73 · 21/10/2019 20:54

Nothing.... Hopefully they apologised. Please don't feed the lawyers wallets (they'd get far more than you) for something so minor

slipperywhensparticus · 21/10/2019 20:59

It was an accident but I would follow up to head office asking how they will change there procedure so it doesnt happen again

We complained to tesco when my son had an accident in store they got the shop upgraded faster so it couldnt happen again

RedRec · 21/10/2019 21:02

Nothing wrong with saying racking.

Quartz2208 · 21/10/2019 21:04

Tell them and accept graciously the apology and maybe the voucher they send you

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 21/10/2019 21:10

Never heard the word racking in my life. Only racks which made me assume it was shelves. Not sure why that bothers you that I clarified? Hmm

RedRec · 21/10/2019 21:15

Doesn't bother me. Racking / shelving exactly the same thing. Poss regional differences? Wink

LonginesPrime · 21/10/2019 21:15

If you're injured seek medical help.

MonChatEstMagnifique · 21/10/2019 21:16

I presume they knew you had been hurt and so helped you at the time. Get checked out if you feel you need, otherwise the bruise/mark will soon go. Do you usually worry when you get what seems like a minor injury?

dontdoxmeeither · 21/10/2019 21:28

I've heard of racking.

Not sure there's a lot to be done really? Assume you were attended to at the time?

LonginesPrime · 22/10/2019 00:54

OP, I know there's all this talk of racking vs shelving, but what I wasn't sure of from your post is what part of your body was injured - if it's your head or face or something, then I'd get it checked out if it's bothering you still.

If you meant your left thigh is bruised, I'd be less concerned and would probably just see how it is in a few days.

KeepYourCup · 22/10/2019 01:07

Arnica cream is good for bruises, you can get it in most chemists.

purplepigs · 26/10/2019 16:24

Thank you for all your comments.
By racking I meant the metal frame that the shelves would normally sit on as it was being assembled by a member of staff.
Sorry for the confusion about it all.

The bruise has not gone down and I am waiting for a response from TKMAXX only because I was worried had it been a child or an elderly person it could have been a lot worse. That's all.

Again thank you for your messages and hope you all have a good weekend.
