Universal Credit and NI Contributions

Under the former Unemployment Benefit, your NI contributions were paid by the DWP. I've just heard that if you are claiming Universal Credit because you're unemployed, your NI contributions aren't paid.

Does anyone know if this is correct?

If you are on Jobseekers Allowance you received Class 1 National Insurance credits automatically. If you are unemployed and looking for work but not receiving Jobseekers Allowance you have to claim Class 1 National Insurance credits by contacting your Jobcentre.

You get Class 3 NI credits if you’re claiming UC, but Class 1 if you’re claiming new style JSA
