I recently left my business partner - no contract - to start my own business.

He owes me money and is refusing to pay this. He is now threatening to sue me for reputational damages and loss of business as I lost us a client contract a few months ago. At the time he said it was fine, now he is scorned and wants to get out of paying me.

Can anyone shed some light on this? I just want to get my money and go. He is threatening to take me to court and sue me unless I walk away.

We didn't have a contract but have an email stating he will pay me x amount, on this date.

How can he sue me for reputational damages and loss to the business? He's even giving projected earnings... the client no longer wanted to work with us after I messed up. It was fine at the time and something he had done previously. A simple mistake. Sad

Regardless of whether or not there was a written contract you owed certain duties to your partner. It may be you have breached those duties but there is nowhere near enough detail here to tell. You need to consult a solicitor.
