Child maintenance-turning 16

Lostinspacecakes · 04/08/2019 15:07

My DS is 16 in September. His ‘dad’ seems to think he stops paying maintenance(it’s very hot and miss as it is!) the day he turns 16. DS will be going into year 11 in September, so still has another school year left.
Someone tell me if he stops paying on his birthday or when DS leaves school.
Thanks

Child maintenance is payable up to 20 if they are in full time education up to A-level or equivalent if he stops go to the CMS and let them explain it to him in words of one syllable.

And it is the end of August AFTER they leave education too - my kids are both September born and I know my ex will be furious he has to support his own kids until they are almost 19 (assuming they both go into 6th form without any extensions).

An easy way to remember it and explain to him is this .... if you receive child benefit for your child, he still has to pay child maintenance

Thanks! Oo I look forward to passing in this info to him Grin

Them's the facts! And if he unilaterally decides he will stop it at the age of 16, just advise the CMS and they'll be only too happy to take this off your hands and drop him a line. You pay £20 to activate the case with them - and it's money well spent.

He only gives me £20 a week. So far, up to arrears of £175. Total waste of skin, that one!
