Job Offer withdrawn after informing employer that I am pregnant.

Hi all,

I originally posted this on as a pregnancy thread. As the situation has evolved I have been advised to post on here. I was offered a job yesterday afternoon and although I know I was under no obligation to inform them, I told the employer that I was expecting in December. Since then I have had the job offer withdrawn as they felt that I “misled them” and wasn’t honest. Is anyone able to give me some advice if I were to take this further.

When I saw this pop up on ‘active’ I read the OP and thought it was so similar to a thread I’d seen before... until I noticed the date and realised it was still you!

Well done for holding on this long and good luck for Wednesday?

Instatwat · 04/05/2020 23:00

Its not the same thing but I was offered a job and after I started I told my employer I had certain disabilities and asked for "reasonable adjustment". I was accused of being dishonest in not telling them. Fortunately I was already a member of a strong union and was told my my rep that I had no obligation to tell employers up front. I wont elaborate but the employer continued to discriminate and I eventually got a very large out of court settlement for disability discrimination.

Seek advice from CAB or someone who specialises in the Equalities Act.

Just wanted to wish you luck for Wednesday.

I was once asked in a job interview if I was planning to get married and/or have children, which I was. The interviewer then proceeded to tell me that one of the employees was getting married and they wanted to get rid of her before she got pregnant. I didn't get that job. I'm sure we all know why. Wish I'd known how wrong this was at the time and done something about it.

So glad to hear you finally have a date. I think this is the procedure.

A short while before the hearing (10 minutes) a Court Clark should call you to make sure you are ready and aware that the hearing is going ahead at X time. You can usually have someone with you for support, but they shouldn’t talk during the hearing.

Then the Court will call you, they will introduce themselves and whoever else is there.

I think they will summarise what the case is about and maybe ask you questions about what happened. Timeline of events etc (good idea to have all this written down in bullet points to focus your mind).

They are just going to ask you questions, it’s nothing to worry about, if you need a minute to collect your thoughts, just tell them you need a minute.

They are not trying to catch you out, just tell the truth of what happened and you will do great. Remember the law is on your side.

If the wankers prospective employer have sent a representative, they will ask them questions too.

Try not to interrupt them even if they are lying, remember this is a court.

Once they have asked all their questions, they may ask you if you have anything to add, you may tell them how it made you feel, the impact on self esteem/confidence etc.

Good luck congrats on your baby.
