Job Offer withdrawn after informing employer that I am pregnant.

Hi all,

I originally posted this on as a pregnancy thread. As the situation has evolved I have been advised to post on here. I was offered a job yesterday afternoon and although I know I was under no obligation to inform them, I told the employer that I was expecting in December. Since then I have had the job offer withdrawn as they felt that I “misled them” and wasn’t honest. Is anyone able to give me some advice if I were to take this further.

Good luck for Weds OP. It's so important for women to fight shit like this, so thank you.

Hoping you get a decent pay out but more importantly that the company learn their lesson.

Let us know how it goes.

Best of luck for Wednesday!
Really hoping it goes in your favour, that woman is horrible, unprofessional and trying her best to stall things!
So glad the courts have set it up to be done by phone so she can't drag this on any longer.

Please do update us I've only just found the thread and I'm so angry this has happened to you!

(Belated) Congratulations on the birth of your daughter.

Hi OP,

I know a friend in HR, in her company a few years ago a person who'd they'd given a job offer to then withdrew it for a spurious reason once she disclosed pregnancy took them to tribunal. It took 18 months to go through the various stages, but she was awarded a six figure sum.

So I suppose what I'm trying to say is hold your nerve, and don't let them settle with you for a small amount as they will suddenly no doubt be keen to settle once the hearing date looms closer.

Take care

GeorgiaWeLoveYou · 04/05/2020 22:53

We really hate the fact that you were not upfront with us

A truly awful comment and disgusting people. You are not obligated to tell someone (employer or not) personal details about your life. Cannot believe who they think they are.

Good luck for the hearing OP.

blettedmedlar · 04/05/2020 22:53

Definitely don't settle before the hearing - 15 years ago I took my employer to tribunal for disability discrimination and they tried to settle for £7000. I was awarded £23000, and I'm so glad I didn't just settle (my case had dragged on for 18 months).

Voice0fReason · 04/05/2020 22:56

I hope things go well, I have no doubt they will.
