Job Offer withdrawn after informing employer that I am pregnant.

Hi all,

I originally posted this on as a pregnancy thread. As the situation has evolved I have been advised to post on here. I was offered a job yesterday afternoon and although I know I was under no obligation to inform them, I told the employer that I was expecting in December. Since then I have had the job offer withdrawn as they felt that I “misled them” and wasn’t honest. Is anyone able to give me some advice if I were to take this further.

I think you should get extra on top for all the stress and spoiling your pregnancy!

Good luck

Char1997 · 02/11/2019 14:44

my only worry now is that if i lose🥺 but i’ve spoken to union reps, employment lawyers, people high up in HR and they have all said it’s such a clear cut case so fingers crossed! 🤞🏻

Following as friend in similar situation! Hope you get the outcome you deserve OP

dreichsky · 02/11/2019 16:44

Good luck OP.
I'm really glad you have stuck with this.

mrssillysausage · 02/11/2019 16:56

Good for you OP. I commented early on as I'm an employment lawyer, and offered my services.
You 100% will get a financial award. Just be mindful that the defending company has the period of time to respond, but an award won't be decided upon until the tribunal unless they don't lodge a response or offer you a settlement agreement in lieu of attending court.
Do not accept a token financial gesture,
you at potentially in for a 5 figure payout here. Such blatant discrimination is something that the tribunals deal with very heavily.
Good luck!!!

ivykaty44 · 03/11/2019 06:46

I also hope that this company will lose this case & realise that their discrimination and then their lies got them into this situation.

Jaffacakebeast · 03/11/2019 07:30

Hi again OP, remember that her email withdrawing the job offer is evidence an offer was made so they can't deny that.

I still don't have a grievance outcome and its 8 months since I submitted it! Meeting my own lawyer on Wednesday about my own claim.

Good luck OP

I agree that this seems a clear cut case from a tribunal perspective. Good luck either way OP, and well done for taking it on. Many people wouldn’t have

username2020 · 11/11/2019 18:42

any update @Char1997 ? I've been told I'll get my grievance outcome at the end of the month and I'm shitting myself they will turn it around on me. My tribunal claim is also submitted too.

Grandmi · 11/11/2019 18:48
