Company Maternity Policy

So I work for company X, which is owned by company Y. According to policy documents I found, Company X only offers SMP, however company Y offers an enhanced package. Can this be right?
Worth noting that company Y only bought X last year, could it be a case they haven't merged policies yet?

They can offer different terms, depending on staff contracts. Unfortunately evdn if they standardise terms it is often that they are made worse across the board rather than better. Is there a union in place to negotiate this? If so, they may be able to provide some leverage.

Hi @Petitprince, thanks for your reply. Makes sense. No union, unfortunately, but company Y is a Fortune 500 (well, fortune 50 actually!) company and company X is, well, a tiny part of that. Will speak to HR when I'm ready to announce the pregnancy. Thanks again x

You can still ask the question, of course, and negotiate with your HR dept. They may surprise you.

@Petitprince Yeah, it can't hurt to ask. They aren't particularly maternity friendly though and this will be my second in 2 years. Feel like an inconvenience already...but that's another can of worms haha!
