My ex husband and I divorced two years ago. We went through mediation and he remarried a month after the decree absolute. He now wants us to come to a private agreement to change the amount of maintenance he pays due to his self-employed earnings taking a severe downturn. Neither of us can afford to pay more solicitors fees. However, I want to protect myself and the family home (the two children are now at/about to start uni.).Can anyone please advise on the process and costs of applying to court for a variation. I am well aware that a private arrangement is not legally binding and will leave me open to further requests to reduce the amount, however I know that something must be done quickly without haemorrhaging more money. I would welcome any informed advice. Thanks!

The current court filing fees should be on the government website, typically it's about £250 for most things so I suspect it will be similar but I've not done this yet (in the process now). It's best to make a private arrangement because the age of your kids means that the court may feel he doesn't need to pay any longer

Thanks for that. Good luck with your own situation.
