Urgent advice - separated 23 years - spouse died

My bfs mum has just passed away, his parents have been separated for 23 years. Can anyone tell me what this means in regards to his mums pension and what his dads entitlement would be? Scots Law. TIA

Did they have a separation agreement
If so normally they would have given up rights of succession in each other's estate
Had she claimed her pension yet
