Inheritance, disabled child and affect on benefits

I am soon to inherit from my parents estate. At the moment I am a carer for my daughter who is disabled. I own my house but have a mortgage and I pay the interest only atm. I receive benefits (not HB) and maintenance from her father.
We were assessed for an extension (bedroom and bathroom downstairs) for my daughter by the council but they couldn't get funding so we have a Wetroom upstairs but this is difficult for her. If I was to use my inheritance to build the extension would I be depriving myself of assets?

Do you get any means tested benefits now?

If you do you need to talk to the benefits office to ask. It used to be you could have a certain level of benefits(£6000) without it affecting anything. Hiw much would the extension cost?

Red, I do have one means tested benefit, which I expect to loose.
I think an extension would cost around £20,000. It would be amazing to have a bathroom that was acessable as well, I have a downstairs toilet atm but it's too narrow to be used really.

I will have to declare it anyway so I will ask the benefits office.
