Debt after death

A relative owes me a fair amount of money and I have this in writing from them. They are unlikely to pass away with any assets, however - on the off-chance that they leave any money, do I have any legal claim to it? I can't imagine they're going to state it in their will Confused

If you have proof of a debt then yes you can claim against the estate. Debts are sorted first before you know what is left to inherit.

I didn't know that but I guess that's logical! Thank you - I'll bear that in mind.
