It should be illegal to claim to be an ex cop or ex military. I have heard so many people try to gain sympathy because of what they supposedly saw in Vietnam or gain peoples confidence by saying they were once a cop or a marriage counselor. it shouldn't be legal for them to do this.
They may not be gaining anything tangible but they definitely use it for their advantage.

How would this be policed then?

isabellerossignol · 29/05/2019 02:58

I take it you're not in the UK? You don't get much respect in the UK for claiming to be ex military, so I don't think you have to worry about anyone doing it for personal gain.

Alicewond · 29/05/2019 03:01

@justtiredofit what do you want to gain from this, people lie, that’s life. Do you have someone specific?

Ifeelinclined · 29/05/2019 03:04

It actually is illegal in the US. I'm not sure if it covers police service, but it does cover military service. But it's very hard to enforce.

Alicewond · 29/05/2019 04:09

Working on the assumption nothing will happen, do you want to talk about how this person hurt you?

Hoppinggreen · 29/05/2019 09:42

Wouldnt work here in The Uk so I’m assuming you are in America?
In which case we can’t really advise
