Extension to "Permission to let" on mortgaged flat

Hello.

Has anyone ever been granted an extension to continue letting out their property from their mortgage provider? Some mortgage providers do allow owners to let out their properties for a maximum of 2 years, depending on circumstances. My property has been let out for that period of time. Our original plans have fallen through and I can no longer move back to the property at this stage, as originally expected. I am dreading the conversation with the mortgage provider. What are the chances that they will extend their 'permission to let' for another 2 years?

If they don't extend it you just move to a buy to let mortgage instead

Understood.... which is exactly what I am worried about. My present mortgage is at a very desirable rate and hence moving to a BTL mortgage could prove much more costly. That's why I am assessing any and all options open to me.

Why do you dread talking to your mortgage provider? You are paying them for their services. They want your money so will do whatever they can to keep your business.

I dread the stress of it.

You're right though. I needn't be so worried. I am presently looking after an ill parent, which means I don't want to move back to my flat as yet because I am caring for my mum. I am afraid that this sudden change in circumstances might cost me more money (in terms of being moved onto a higher rate mortgage (BTL)) which would obviously be unwelcome.

When i changed to a buy to let mortgage i went with a new bank qnd it was actually cheaper than my residential mortgage. I kept the monthly payments the same, as that was what i had based my tenants rent on and just reduced the term by a few years
