Does shoplifting show up on DBS

Posting for advice for my friend who is very worried!
Last month my friend concealed two cans of silly string with her handbag, while doing her weekly supermarket shop. Got caught by security guard on exit, he said he saw her do it! She apologised and explained it was a total accident and she was unaware of it! Offered to pay. He said it was a form of theft and he had to take her details, ban her from store! He said he would not call police.
She is currently undergoing a DBS Check for work! Its taking a really long time to get processed an says it's currently pending with police check. Could the security guard pass her details to police? Would this show up? She is obviously very mortified by the whole thing!

No it wont.

You have to be actually convicted in court for it to show up on a DBS check.

@sausagepastapot this is what Ive told her! She has had no dealing with police at all ever

For a standard disclosure sausagepastapot is correct. However, if it is an enhanced disclosure the police will include any non-conviction information they believe is relevant. It is extremely unlikely this offence will show up but it is not completely impossible.

Why did she steal the silly string? It won't show up anywhere btw

DulcieRay · 21/05/2019 20:44

It shouldn't show up as the police weren't involved, but they could have been called by the shop so she might want to behave better in future

rasberrynipple · 21/05/2019 20:51

@ooft it was a total accident she just placed her bag on top. Security guard said she was concealing items, he asked her for her details, she said she was mortified about the whole situation and just cooperated as she was with her daughter and felt embarrassed! Her dbs is taking awhile to process and thinks this is the only incident that may affect it!

Ah ok I see! No it will only show up if she's convicted of something, which she never would be for that. Tell her not to worry x

rasberrynipple · 21/05/2019 20:56

@ooft its an enhanced DBS! I think she is really worried it could cause her embarrassment at work!

It probably won't but you cannot say that for certain. If the police have been notified they are entitled to include the information on an enhanced check if they consider it to be relevant and proportionate. The "other relevant information" section of the disclosure can include allegations unless the allegation is unlikely to be true. In this case the information would clearly be true.

@prh47bridge i guess will have to wait and see, she works with children so it may well flag up! Obviously going to have to explain the situation to her manager and hope for best! Thank you for your advice.
