I know already there's probably nothing we can do but I'm so furious I want to double check.
My mum and dad hired a cleaning duo about 5 years ago. 5 years ago, whilst visiting them, I 'lost' an item of jewellery. Thought it was odd at the time as I remember exactly where I put it but when I went to get it a few days later it had gone. Hey ho, these things happen.
Fast forward to last summer and the duo has just split up, now mum and dad just have one of them come. Single cleaner tells me that she stopped working with the other cleaner after people reported items going missing after their houses were cleaned. I admit that I think back to my jewellery piece at this point but say nothing as by now this was 4 years ago that it went missing and I have no other evidence it was taken, rather than just lost.
Today mum realised that family pieces of jewellery which she kept hidden in boxes in her room have gone missing. She NEVER takes them out, so cant say when she last saw them although I know she still had them 4 years ago. The cleaning duo only split up last year. We are convinced that this woman who used to work with the cleaner that stayed on has stolen these items, my ring 5 years ago and mums pieces anytime between 1 to 5 years ago. We are fairly sure the current cleaner isnt stealing from mum as she is very honest and was the one who alerted me to the fact that her ex partner had been accused of stealing before.
Trouble is, rather than our current cleaners word for it and the fact that so many similar items have gone missing, we have no proof. We only have the cleaners name but no contact details. Mum doesnt think she has any documents or photos to prove her ownership of these family jewellery pieces as they are fairly low value (but high sentimental value) and they arent on insurance or listed as individual items in any wills etc. There's literally nothing we can do is there? :(
