WWYD employee selling drugs

Run a small business with only one employee.

I have recently found out (after suspecting) that they is selling drugs. Not in work, in their own time, although there has been massively increased phone use at work I've noticed.

I don't want to be associated with this. We are still growing and building our reputation. Is there anything I can do even though technically this is something they do outside of work time?

There are lots of other things that have been building up to me no longer wanting them here. Always late, constantly nipping out to make phone calls, extremely messy and never tidies despite being asked and various others. We chat and they buck up for a week then it's back to normal.

As this is my first employee I only gave them a 6 month employment contract which says their employment will terminate on x date (6 months from start). This is in just under 2 months.

Once we reach this date, can I simply terminate their employment and say we no longe require them and won't be renewing their contract? Of course I'd give written notice prior to the date.

You need proper advice on employment law longer term but you can just give notice within first 2 years of employment without giving a reason. How much notice is he on?

One week

Then just give notice, you could even offer to pay in lieu.

It might be a good idea to pay their notice period but not have them come into work. They don't sound particularly trustworthy, at the very least they will probably stop making an effort to work and just coast once they know they are leaving.

Thanks. I think I will look to give notice shortly.

I've had chats with them about their attitude/issues in work but nothing has been formal or in writing.
