There are bandings for tax for probate purposes. It would appear that the lowest band was up to £240,000 in 2007

I was granted probate for the estate of my ex-husband. This is the same as the document I received from the High Court of Justice. It gives authority for the Executor of the Will to execute the wishes of the deceased. It gives no information about the amount in the Estate or of any beneficiaries etc as that is all covered by the Will itself, and other evidence which is submitted to the Court along with the application for probate. The Executor, once granted Probate, must gather all documents/evidence of the assets and then distribute them according to the deceased's wishes.
