Counterfeit item

I purchased an item and when it arrived it's clearly a counterfeit. I paid through PayPal and have opened a claim, but they will only refund me if I post the item back at my expense.

The item was advertised using videos and reviews of the genuine item. There are also safety implications with the item as others who have purchased have experienced their item sparking/catching alight.

Can anyone advise on how I should respond to PayPal please?

Have you asked the seller? Your claim is against them. Or do you mean you have asked the seller for a refund but they will only refund if you post the item back at your expense and you want to know how to respond to the seller?

Point them at their own terms.
www.paypal.com/uk/webapps/mpp/paypal-safety-and-security
"Refunds
If an order doesn't arrive or match the description, we'll reimburse the full cost of eligible purchases and paid delivery costs (where applicable)."

I would start with return the money or the counterfeit item gets shown to police and trading standards.

Once you get the money back go to police and trading standards.

Paypal's terms require them to refund the delivery costs paid by the OP to receive the item in the first place. They do not require them to refund the cost of returning the item to the seller.

That would be a good thing for the OP to say to the seller but not to Paypal. This is why I am questioning whether she is talking to Paypal or the seller.

Thanks all.

The seller does not respond to any emails (apart from PayPal it would seem).

PayPal have told me I have to post it back at my own expense in order to be refunded. The return address they have sent me is in Morocco so to post it back will cost nearly as much as I paid for the item.
