Family home in my name - securing DH's share

Hi, hoping some MN legal eagles can point me in the right direction.

When we bought the family home the only way to get a mortgage was to buy it in my name only, as DH wasn't earning enough at the time.

Now, he is earning more and contributes to the mortgage and rent (shared ownership).

We've tried to get it put into our joint names but DH is self employed and needs a couple of years of higher earnings before the mortgage provider will consider a transfer of equity.

So what can we do to establishe/codify DH rights of joint ownership in the house?

Something like a side letter or deed of variation, a post-nuptial agreement, a contract? Anyone out there done something similar? All suggestions appreciated!

Also, am I looking for a solicitor specialising in property or family law?

TIA

That seems odd. Our mortgage is in DH's name only due to his earnings but we are joint tenants when it comes to ownership.

Sorry, that's not helpful!

Thank you flowery.

Yes, I don't know if we were badly advised. Trying to sort it out now.

What are you trying to achieve?

If you are concerned about what happens if you divorce, should that happen the house will be classed as an asset of the marriage and will go into the pot to be divided between you regardless of whose name it is in. You don't need to do anything to the way the house is owned to establish your husband's entitlement to a share.
