Help me sort out DPs divorce!

Long story short (hopefully!) - DP and his X have been split for 8 years, we got together nearly 5years ago and it has taken til this year for X to sort the divorce (whenever DP mentioned it she always said she would sort as she could get it done for free - don't ask me how I've no clue - but was always pushy and stand offish when DP had said he didn't mind paying if it got the job done sooner)
Anyway, she finally got around to it this year (after her new DP proposed whilst we've been waiting over a year to set a date) had the decree nisi in June and both DP and X were under the impression everything was done and dusted, I however read the letter properly and saw that they needed to send off another form for the decree absolute. I researched on the gov website and read the petitioner (X) could do this six weeks later otherwise the respondent (DP) would have to wait 3 months.
So DP rang her and ended up giving me the phone as neither of them were understanding each other so I explained and even had a PDF of the form in front of me that I was willing to fill out for her and she could sign next time we come for the DCs (btw no issues around the divorce, no splitting of assets or anything involving their DCs just straight forward sign on the dotted line type) she said no it's fine she'll do it at the weekend.
We are now in September with no sign of a decree absolute coming anytime soon, I think she's either forgotten or just cant be arsed.
Anyway, DP can do it himself now as its been 3 months and would do so but would it cost us money now? Not that it matters we just want it done with now but I worry it might then cost X as well because she started the process and I know she would kick up a royal fuss if we did this and she then had to pay something towards.
Can anyone advise please? Sorry if it's posted in the wrong area I wasn't sure where to go! And sorry it turned out so long!

Call the court and ask. They’re very helpful.
