Music Lessons - One terms notice

DS has decided to quit private music lessons. The teachers T&C's state that we must give / pay one terms written notice. We informed the teacher at the end of August, my understanding being that we needed to inform him before term began today. Teachers written stating that we need to still pay him this terms fees. I'm a bit surprised, any views on who has got this right?

That's not how I would have interpreted it. I would have interpreted one term's notice as needing to be handed in at the beginning of the summer term. Otherwise it's, y'know, a few days' notice. The teacher now has a lesson that he or she needs to fill, with most people sorted for the term.

The teacher has got it right. By giving notice in August, the "term's notice" means the Autumn term. If you dgdmt want lessons in the Autumn term you needed to give notice at the end of the Spring term (Easter ish). Sorry, you will need to pay.

🙁 thanks for responses. I do see where the teachers coming from & couldnt fill that gap at short notice. DS would rather stick needles in his eyes than attend tho sadly, so it's money for nothing.

Same conditions in our school,

The teacher may well teach another instrument or be able to change the style of music they teach or even just be able to do some music theory. It’s worth asking so you don’t pay out for a whole term for nothing.
