Heirhunters and Estate

I'm hoping somebody can advise. Several years ago a relative died. I was contacted by the police and made funeral arrangements and was involved in the inquest.

A heir hunter has contacted me saying that the estate has now been advertised on the bona vacantia site. I thought this was odd as the council and police have my details. When I queried this with the bona vacantia department they told me my relatives estate is not with them at all.

After more digging around i contacted a soliciters called farrer and co who seem to be involved. They said it has been referred to the bona department. It hasnt, and doesn t appear on their list at all. I feel that something funny is going on. How do I find out who is actually dealing with this?

Do a search at the probate registry and they will tell you who the executor is. Perhaps the problem is that no one has actually applied to administer the estate?

Thanks, I'll get on that.
