Fight with a minor

Last night on a night out (outside a kebab shop I was walking past, classy Confused) a drunk girl started randomly insulting my appearance and my boyfriend (who was also drunk) ended up arguing with her as I tried to walk away, I’d just completely ignored it

Then she took it a step further and ran to assualt him/us, she swung a punch and I grabbed her arm to stop it

She then started going crazy at me trying to ‘batter’ me (her words) and I saw red. I didn’t punch her or anything just forcefully held her off. It was basically a cat fight.

Someone eventually dragged her away, but when they did they said she was 16

I’m in my late 20’s and I’m terrified this is classed as assault on a minor.

I feel sick with worry, I don’t know what counts as ‘reasonable force’ to have stopped her assaulting me.

Does anyone know the laws surrounding this? I feel like even though she attacked me, her being 16 would make me automatically at fault Sad

Did the police get involved, sounds pretty horrific for everyone.

When you say forcefully held her off, did you hold her arms or was there tussling and hair pulling etc? That would make a difference to how it was viewed.

MrsHoodwink · 03/09/2018 00:18

Yes unfortunately there was tussling and she pulled my hair etc, I also had to push her face away with both my hands as she was forcing it at my own Confused

I wish I could’ve just restrained her arms but honestly I’m a tiny person it wouldn’t have worked (I did try to start with she got me off) so it definitely ended up more of a cat fight than anything

There was no police at the time anywhere near, been worried all day waiting for the knock on the door but nothing, possibly she’s realised she began the fight and hasn’t said anything

There isn't actually an offence of assault against a minor in the UK.

Grin This has made me laugh. As obviously the truth lies a bit further along the line than you just holding her off. “I saw red and held her off” 😂😂😂 erm that’s not what seeing red is. That’s what everyone would naturally do if attacked.

I doubt she'll report it so live and learn. Walk away and tell your boyfriend he's best off doing the same!

Rebecca36 · 12/09/2018 11:59

Yes - and your boyfriend is best off not being drunk!

She’s lucky she picked on you. Someone else might have kicked the stupid cunt’s head in.
