Change of Name

I've recently seperated from my husband and left the family home. When I got married, I took his surname (let's say it's Smith)

I would like to change my surname back to my maiden name (let's say Jones). I never changed the name in my passport when I got married, so it still says Jones. Is this enough to change my name with banks etc, or will I need a deed poll?

I am starting divorce proceedings in the coming days, but I really don't want his surname anymore. The split has been less than friendly.

Any advice greatly received.

The bank wouldn't let me change even with passport changed without a copy of the decree nisi, however I could change it everywhere else.

PayPal still won't change it 9 years later.

That's not good. I'm considering deed poll but was wondering if the passport alone would suffice.

Perhaps go into the bank and ask?

Yeah, I had a slightly complicated name change, and two different banks were surprisingly helpful in telling me what I needed to do (less than I thought!!)

Take your birth certificate & passport and

You don't need a deed poll for it. However if you worried you can do your own for the bank

Go on this freedeedpoll.org.uk/ and generate your own change of name deed.
