Hi,
Have seen quite a few children (minors) in the front passenger seat of various cars driving since I've moved to UK a few years ago.
Is this legal? Just curious

Yes as long as they are in the correct child seat where required

QforCucumber · 12/07/2018 21:37

Yes it's fine. Why wouldn't it be?

Racecardriver · 12/07/2018 21:38

Yes-what are we supposed to do-strap them to the roof?

Button should turn the airbag off for rear facing seats or carry type seats I think

Some countries have restrictions on this. I just looked up the current Australian rules (when I was a child they were different, I think we had to be older before allowed in the front at all). Children under 4 cannot sit in the front seat if a car has other seats. Children between 4 and 7 can only use the front seat if all the rear seats are taken by younger children already.

I fhought it was 12 in the uk unless there was no rear seat / room in rear?

No. Children under 12 can travel in the front seat provided they use an appropriate child restraint (child seat or booster cushion). Once they are 12 or more than 135cm tall they no longer have to use a child restraint.

air bag ( a dangerous american idea) must be turned off if child in front seat is rear facing, as otherwise it will kill kid by breaking its neck.

otherwise front seat no more dangerous.

If a child is in front in a booster or high back, front facing, do you turn air bag off? I thought you did as their height made them dangerous
