Wall on a shared driveway

Looking for any advice or experience around shared driveways please. When we bought our house 14 years ago we had a shared driveway but in agreement with the then owners we had a wall built down the middle and each had our own drives built on the front gardens. Since then we've had 2 other sets of neighbours and all have been happy with the divided driveways. Both have fenced in, established back gardens which take up part of the shared access at the end of the driveway too.
Now the new potential buyers (sale hasn't completed yet) are enquiring about taking the wall, gates and fences down to gain access to the back garden and possibly build a garage.
I could kick myself for not getting it all in writing but can they actually move in and have everything taken down after such a long time?
TIA

No they can't and if you want the proper opinion go on the garden law website

I think the opposite to the previous poster and believe they can force the wall to be removed. It depends on the wording of the deeds of both properties, if there's a right of way over each others 'side' then the new neighbours still have the right to use it. Rights of Way are powerful beasties. You really, really don't want this to end up in court.

Gardenlaw is a good place to go for better qualified advice than mine, but I've been an avid reader there for a long time and feel you might be given some bad news.
