DWP asking to see bank statements

Hi. I have a visit from the DWP today and looking at the letter they say they want to see my recent bank statements. Can they actually demand this? It seems a bit invasive and I'm not altogether happy about it.

Thanks

If you are expecting benefits paid they can demand anything!!

It's to check that you are not receiving income that you haven't declared. Completely normal of the dwp to request them.

If you want to continue claiming any benefits yes they can. You’re free to refuse and cancel your claim also.

If your not claiming benefits I’d be confused why they’re asking and refuse.

It's for a benefits review. I am sure they didn't ask for my original claim, but ok. Thank you

oh I'm surprised they didn't ask for the original claim, but yes, perfectly legit as far as I know.
