Defended Divorce

Despite my solicitor being amazed by this, my emotionally abusive ex has decided to defend the divorce. He's filed an answer and we're waiting the court to set a hearing date. Quick question, any idea how long it takes to set that date?

Usually a couple of months ahead.

Your solicitor should be negotiating with your STBX's solicitor to get this sorted without the totally unnecessary hassle and expense of going to court.

One of you needs to be the bigger person and back down, and allow the divorce to go ahead.

We tried, he's self representing and isn't interested in divorce. My solicitor has also tried to get him to seek proper legal advice several times. I would agree to anything he says to get a divorce but he wants to control me (actually was arrested for controlling behaviour) and just refuses to petition or counter petition. He says he'll fight it all the way just because. I get legal aid thankfully, as a domestic abuse victim on a low income.
