Setting up baby group

Does anyone have advice on setting up a baby group? I have been inspired by the elderly and baby/toddler/preschool groups I have seen on social Merida and want to set something up in my village. I have the venue, a community room, run by the council that is part of a sheltered housing for the elderly and retired.

They have a coffee morning one day a week and I spoke to the lady who manages the site and she said it would be lovely if something was set up another day of the week.

What I would like to know is what are the legal issues, insurance, problems, liability and anything else that goes into running a baby group. There is a kitchen so I would serve drinks and cakes/biscuits. What about food allergies?

Most of the village hall type baby groups I have been to have served hot drinks around the children and had biscuits/cakes available, and toys that were got out every week without being sterilised in between!!

Any help and advice welcomed!

Hi,

I have been thinking about doing something similar, would love to hear if you've had any luck with your research and setting up since you posted this message? I'm afraid I can't help with your questions as I'm pretty clueless. I contacted someone from the Together Project (www.thetogetherproject.co.uk/songs-and-smiles/) before my son was born but as they do not have a group in my area, Brighton, she suggested going to a local care home to make enquiries.

Thanks,
Rachel.

FYI, I only went to groups for the coffee and cake. And who sterilises toys weekly?!
