British naturalisation - how long?

Sorry if this is in the wrong topic but not sure where to put it, any advice appreciated!

OH is an EU national and is going through the British naturalisation process. He has ticked all the boxes, got his PR card just over a year ago and finally posted off his application and supporting documents - including his passport - last week.

However he has just heard that he may need to fly (outside EU) for work at short notice in early June.

Has anyone gone through the EU-UK naturalisation process and can tell us what the likelihood of his application being processed in 2-3 months is? I think it's very unlikely! However all the stuff I've been reading online seems to focus on people who aren't EU citizens and who have had issues with their applications.

Can he request that they send him his passport back once they've done what they need to do with it (I presume look at it and confirm it's real!?), or does that mean he has to cancel his naturalisation application?

Any advice appreciated, I am really struggling with the immigration forums I've found online so far!

The application process will most likely take longer than 2 to 3 months but this might help:
